Does the XPatch-64 have a Fan?

XPatch-32-64.png

Since the release of the XPatch-64 we have had several people asking if the XPatch-64 has a fan.

The answer is yes, a 40mm fan running at 1/2 voltage and less than 1/2 speed, it is very quiet. The main purpose of the fan is to prevent any hot spots within the Box.

We decided to run more tests to check if a fan is necessary in the standard configurations.

Note: the XPatch-32 has no fan.

The main heat generator with in the XPatch-64 is the Gain control chip, which also provides click free switching. All the outputs are fitted with gain control to facilitate click free switching. The XPatch-64 options allow up to 4 input cards (32 Channels) with Gain control.

Currently if you would like 4 input cards (32 Channels) with Gain control there is no extra charge.

After extensive testing we found that running the XPatch-64 with 4 input cards with gain control (32 Channels) without a Fan is not a problem.

If you wish to run without a fan, It is simple to disconnect the fan, but use a cable tie to ensure that the cables do not short out with anything else.

The original test unit has all 64 input channels with gain control, on this we use a fan..

Update:

We have now fitted the XPatch-64 with an emergency fan, so the fan will only come on when the unit gets too hot.
