Connecting The Pyra-Sum Passive Summing Mixer to XPatch

Recently a customer asked for advice on how to connect the Prya-Sum to an XPatch. I looked at the specification of the Pyra-Sum it seemed to be a natural fit with the XPatch and that they would work well together. I decided to generate an example using the XPatch-64, Pyra-Sum, equalizers and Compressors. The XPatch-96 should be used for larger systems.

The DAW outputs are connected to the Pyra-Sum Inputs via XPatch, I wanted to normal these connections, at this point I discovered a limitation of the XPatch4 Software. You could define the DAW sources and the Pyra-Sum destinations with different names or use the same names for both and normal them, but not both.

The only solution was to update the XPatch4 software! I added a “Name2” column to the equipment page allowing a different name to be defined for the destination if required. Connecting this to the Matrix and Paths pages took the rest of the day. Look out for this in the next version of XPatch4!

Note. You can load older .cbt files but they will be saved in the new format!

Now I could begin!

DAW Outputs 1-32 are connected to Inputs 1-32 on the XPatch

Xpatch Outputs 1-32 are connected to inputs 1-32 on the Pyra-Sum

Pyra-Sum "To Preamps 1-8" outputs are connected via Mic Amps to XPatch inputs 49-56, alternatively an XPatch Mic Boost card can be fitted to inputs 49-56 in place of the 8 external Mic Amps. (The Pyra-Sum uses Mic Amps to make up 35dB gain after the passive sum)

Pyra-Sum "From Preamps 1-8" are connected to XPatch Outputs 49-56

All connections are normalled in the Equipment rack, To implement the normalling use [New] on the paths page.
