Similarities
Both convert between MTC and LTC
Both accept MMC (Midi Motion Control) Commands
The MIF4 timecode source select commands are now have now added to the TC-5B software as specified in the MIF4 Specifications.
Differences
1) The TC-5B time code source is selected in a setup menu so that the front panel may be used to monitor the Inputs and outputs without disturbing the operation
2) The TC-5B has two Midi ports on the USB, allowing two separate apps to be connected to the TC-5B.
3) The TC-5B App allowing setup and control of the TC-5
4) The TC-5B has a GP I/O Connector
There are two different versions of the TC-5B, TC-5B-Midi and TC-5B-RS422, the TC-5B-Midi has the same I/O as the MIF4, THe TC-5B-RS422 replaced the Serial Midi In/Out with a RS422 Sony Protocol Serial Port.
TC5B-Midi
Although there are some configuration differences the basic functions are the same.
1) LTC -> USB Midi TC
2) MTC on 5pin D -> USB Midi TC
3) Virtual Machine (Generator) -> USB Midi TC
4) USB Midi TC -> LTC and 5 pin Midi
TC5B-RS422
Similar to the TC5B-midi, the 5pin D Midi In and Midi Out are replaced by a RS422 port allowing control or Timecode from a RS422 Video machine (eg. Blackmagic/Aja)
