The first XPatch-96 undergoing thermal soak test

The first XPatch-96 was completed this week (Jan 2022) and is undergoing thermal tests.. Housed in the same 2U rack box as the XPatch-64 it was a tight fit! The XPatch-96 runs a little warmer than the XPatch-64 as was expected.

The processor card is mounted behind the front panel, this has allowed the front panel is used as a heat sink. Extension leads are used to bring the USB and Ethernet to the rear panel. The Front panel jack is used as a Midi input for snapshot selection.

There is a small Internal fan, the thermal tests are made with the Fan Off. The XPatch4 software or front panel settings can switch the fan between off and slow speed. An internal thermal override will switch the fan to full speed if overheating is detected.
